Counseling and Mental Support
Navigating the adoption path, which ultimately leads to a beautiful destination, can be challenging for you as a birth mother. It’s normal to experience a range of emotions before, during, and after placing a child for adoption. We don’t ever want you to feel that you are alone. We are here for you and have qualified counselors who can provide understanding and expertise when experiencing unexpected emotions.
We provide a confidential space to share your thoughts and feelings.
Before giving birth, you may want a counselor who helps you thoroughly understand your options—adoption, abortion, and parenting. You will be allowed to make informed decisions with non-coercive support.
Counseling is valuable throughout your pregnancy and the adoption process. You need to know that you’re not alone.
You may want to discuss some of the following questions with a counselor:
Is adoption right for me and my child?
Open vs. closed adoption: Which is best?
Dealing with family reactions.
Birth father involvement and rights.
Emotional expectations and coping strategies.
Adoption should involve continuous mental support.
Because adoption involves grief and, ultimately, healing, you might want to have support as you better understand the following.
The grieving process after the adoption placement.
Stages of grief: shock, pain, anger, depression, acceptance.
Emotions experienced during each stage.
Coping mechanisms and positive outlets.
Overcoming isolation and embracing healing.
Positive shifts: Laughter, future plans, and healing.
Counseling can be a lifeline for birth mothers considering adoption, offering support through pregnancy, the adoption process, and beyond. While the road may be tough, the destination is worth it. Emotions are valid. Counseling helps birth mothers navigate the journey and find their path to healing and hope.
